The research project will investigate the link between mid-pregnancy shearing in Merino ewes and improved lamb survival. MLA has identified RD&E gaps in its Sheep Productivity priority which includes ‘lamb survival’. AWI’s National Wool RD&E Strategy 2018-2022, which forms part of the National Primary Industries RD&E Framework, has also identified ‘lamb survival’ as one of the priorities for R&D investment.
